Ruben Amorim is pushing Manchester United and INEOS to sign an “exciting” attacking ace who has a £66 million release clause in the summer, according to a report.
Man Utd chase attackers as doubts persist over Garnacho's future
As the 2024/25 campaign continues to disappoint for the Red Devils, Amorim will be desperate to get to the end of May, when he can put his focus along with the club’s hierarchy on signings who fit his system.

It is expected to be a busy summer for the Premier League side, but it is again a window where United will need to sell before they can bring new arrivals in. One player who could be moved on is winger Alejandro Garnacho, as he was linked with a move away in January and is now once again being linked with a move in the summer. Barcelona are said to be keen on signing the Argentine, as they look to bolster their attacking options, and given he is valued at £70 million, that fee could help Amorim bring in his own players.
A player who could replace Garnacho is Florian Wirtz, as United have reportedly placed him high on their list of priorities for the summer. However, United are not alone in their interest, as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also very keen on signing the Germany international.
Amorim pushing Man Utd to sign £66m Sporting star
But Wirtz is not the only player who could replace Garnacho, as according to Portuguese outlet A Bola (relayed by Hard Tackle), Man United are interested in signing Francisco Trincao from Sporting CP, with Amorim pushing the club to complete a deal.
Trincao has emerged as a viable target as he fits into Amorim’s system with his versatility and high intensity in the final third, but again United are not alone in their pursuit, as Man City are also keen on the 25-year-old, with Hugo Viana pushing his new side to sign the winger.
Trincao has a release clause worth €80 million (£66 million) in his contract with Sporting CP, but United will look to push for a lower transfer fee. However, that could be difficult, as Barcelona have a 50 percent sell-on clause in their agreement with Sporting, so the Portuguese side will want to get as much money as they can.
Trincao, who has been dubbed a “really exciting player” by former Wolves technical director Scott Sellars in the past, has been at Sporting since July 2022, when he joined on loan from Barça before joining on a permanent basis a year later. The attacker scored nine goals and recorded six assists last season as Sporting won the Portuguese title.

Trincao has continued that form this season, and given how well Amorim knows him, United are keeping a close eye on his performances, as he could be an ideal replacement for Garnacho should he leave. It’s become clear at Old Trafford that certain players cannot fit into Amorim’s system, so for it to work, the Red Devils are going to need players who can thrive in it, and Trincao is one of those.
