Lineker & Ferdinand had bet on RonaldoRio won after Ronaldo handed over free-kickPortugal out after losing on penaltiesWHAT HAPPENED?
The BBC pundits shared that they had a bet between themselves as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo would give up the first free-kick of the game to Bruno Fernandes in Portugal's defeat on penalties to France. Ronaldo, whose wayward and speculative free-kick taking in Portugal's game against Slovenia drew several critics, shocked Lineker and fans alike when he allowed the Manchester United midfielder to take the first effort.

During the BBC's coverage of the game, Lineker said: "I had a bet with Rio [for a] bottle of wine. I said Ronaldo will take this free-kick and you went, 'Nope, it's going to be Bruno this time.'"
Ferdinand responded: "The reason why was because Cristiano told me before the game that he was going to give it to Bruno. So you owe me a bottle of Sassicaia. A big expensive bottle."
DID YOU KNOW?
Following yet another insipid all-round display and one missed free-kick later, Ronaldo's Portugal crashed out of Euro 2024. The failed effort means that the Portuguese captain has scored just one goal from a direct free-kick in 61 attempts in international football.

At 39 years old and ending Euro 2024 without scoring a goal, that may well be the last sight of Ronaldo in a Portugal shirt at a major international tournament. If so, it is a sad end for the legendary forward who will likely bow out from international football out of necessity, rather than his own accord. France, meanwhile, progress to a semi-final against Spain.
